Alt Attribute & Search engine optimization

SEO Optimization images is becoming more and more essential in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is really a critical step that is sometimes forgotten. This can be a lost opportunity for better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise the use of alternative text for that images in your web site:

Images:. Make use of the alt attribute to supply descriptive text. In addition, we recommend utilizing a human-readable caption and descriptive text round the image.

Why would they ask us to achieve that? The answer is easy, really; search engines like google have the same problem as blind users. They can't begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse the use of this attribute, trying to stuff it with keywords, hoping to achieve a particular keyword density, which isn't as relevant for rankings now since it was previously.

On the contrary, high keyword density can, on some search engines, trigger spam filters, which may create a penalty for your site's ranking. Even without such a penalty, your site's rankings won't take advantage of this plan.
This process also puts persons who use screen readers in a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that really read aloud the items in what's displayed on the screen. In browsing the net, the alt features of images are read aloud as well.

Imagine hearing a paragraph of text that is then repetitions of many keywords. The page will be far from accessible, and, to put it mildly, would be found quite annoying.
What exactly is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute shouldn't be used as a description or perhaps a label to have an image, though lots of people use it in that fashion. Though it may appear natural to assume that alternate text is a label or a description, it is not!

What used inside an image's alt attribute ought to be its text equivalent and convey the same information or serve exactly the same purpose the image would.

The goal would be to provide the same functional information that a visual user would see. The alt attribute text should be the "stand in" when the look is unavailable. Ask yourself this: If you were to replace the look with the text, would most users receive the same basic information, and would it create the same response?
Some examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If a search button is a magnifying glass or binoculars its alt text ought to be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If the image is meant to convey the literal contents of the image, a description is appropriate.

If it's designed to convey data, then that information is what is appropriate.

If it is designed to convey the use of a function, then your function itself is what ought to be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility and for valid XHTML.

For images that play only a decorative role in the page, make use of an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or a CSS background image to ensure that reading browsers don't bother users by uttering things like "spacer image".

Keep in mind that it's the function of the image we are trying to convey. For example; any button images should not include the word "button" within the alt text. They ought to emphasize the action performed through the button.

Alt text ought to be based on context. Exactly the same image inside a different context may require drastically different alt text.

Try to flow alt text with the rest of the text because that is how it is going to be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone hearing your page should hardly be aware that a graphic image is there.
Please remember that using an alt attribute for every image is required to satisfy the minimum WAI requirements, that are used as the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and the remainder of Europe. They are also necessary to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in america.

It is useful to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are things that serve no purpose apart from to make a site visually appealing/attractive and (oftentimes) fulfill the marketing departments. There isn't any content value (though there may be value to a sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there is something there which will boost the usability from the site for somebody utilizing a non-visual user agent. Make use of a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is the middle layer of graphics which may actually set the atmosphere or set happens so to speak. These graphics are not direct content and may 't be considered essential, but they're important in they help frame what's going on.

Attempt to alt-ify the second group as makes sense and is relevant. There might be times when doing this may be annoying or detrimental with other users. Then avoid it.

For instance; Alt text that is just like adjacent text is unnecessary, as well as an irritant to screen reader users. I recommend alt="" or background CSS images in such instances. But sometimes, it's important to understand this content inside for all users.

Most times it depends on context. Exactly the same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text. Obviously, content should always be fully available. The way you use this case is really a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is when the look is the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes can also be in order.
The main reason many authors can't figure out why their alt text isn't working is they don't know why the pictures are there. You need to determined exactly what function a picture serves. Consider what it is about the image that's important to the page's intended audience.

Every graphic includes a reason for standing on that page: since it either improves the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is advisable to what the page is attempting to describe. Knowing what the look is perfect for makes alt text easier to write. And exercise writing them definitely helps.
A method to check the usefulness of alternative text would be to imagine reading the page over the telephone to someone. An amount you say when encountering a particular image to make the page understandable to the listener?

Aside from the alt attribute you've got a couple more tools available for images.
First, in level of descriptiveness title is in between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and may add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered through the user agent. Remember they are invisible and not shown like a "tooltip" when focus is received via the keyboard. (So much for device independence). So make use of the title attribute only for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points to the URL of a full description of the image. When the information found in an image is essential towards the meaning of the page (i.e. some important content will be lost when the image was removed), a longer description than the "alt" attribute can reasonably display should be used. It can provide for rich, expressive documentation of a visual image.

It ought to be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of an image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is really a long description of the image...The aim is by using any length of description necessary to impart the facts from the graphic.

It wouldn't be remiss to hope that the long description conjures a picture - the image - in the mind's eye, an analogy that is true even for the totally blind."

Even though alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility as well as for valid (X)HTML, not every images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

In many cases, you're best just choosing your gut instinct -- if it's not essential to include it, and if you don't have a strong urge to get it done, don't add that longdesc.

However, if it's necessary for the entire page to work, then you have to add the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a lot about the function of the image and its context on the page.

Exactly the same image may need alt text (or title or longdesc) in a single spot, although not in another. If an image provides absolutely no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images might be appropriate to use. However, if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt would be required and maybe even a long description will be in order. Oftentimes this kind of thing is a judgement call.

Image Seo optimization Tips

Listed below are key stages in optimizing images:

Select a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You should use hyphens in the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Avoid using underscores as a word separator, such as "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For instance, if the image search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's going to assume the file is really a photo, and when it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's going to assume that it is a graphic;

Make sure that the text nearby the image that's relevant to that image.
Again, don't lose a great chance to help your website with your images in search engines. Begin using these steps to position better on all the engines and drive more traffic for your site TODAY.

SEO Company

Part of my work as a social media manager is to consistently seek out new folks to engage across various social media platforms.. As a full time B2B social media analyst, it stands to reason that most of the tweeps I’m going to seek out are other businesses. In my searching I’ve noticed a curious trend.

Most of us are familiar with the big three icons, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, as they are everywhere these days – television, print, business cards, and yes, company websites. Adding these icons to your site, in a prominent location, helps to drive traffic to your social media pages which ultimately keep your site visitors engaged with fresh content. After users like your page, or follow you, or subscribe to your YouTube channel they’ll receive a constant stream of posts, which will include your messages. This helps enhance your web presence, has tremendous SEO benefit, and encourages brand loyalty.

So why are so many prominent companies hiding their social media pages?

I often find I have to dig through a company website to find the icons, sometimes displayed on the “about us” or the “contact us” page. Sometimes they aren’t displayed at all, yet after doing a Google search I find that they do, indeed, have a Twitter or Facebook account. What’s up with that?

B.L. Ochman at AdAge pointed out recently that only 44% of the Fortune 50 display their Twitter icon on the homepage, and a sad 4% link to their blog. While I hate to speculate on why they withhold their accounts from this prominent real estate, their homepage, I have to admit that it appears as if they’re, well, above it. My experience, although anecdotal, reveals a trend which I’m coming to recognize. Often it is the Mom and Pops that get it, while the big corporate sites tend to, more often, omit their sharing features. Don’t get me wrong,  many, like my company, have them front and center. But some, hide, or worse, omit them altogether.

Maybe this is because Mom and Pops are used to talking with their customers on a day-to-day basis. They aren’t so far removed that they’re afraid to put themselves out there, and they aren’t afraid of what their customers will talk about. I wonder if sometimes corporations become fearful of the very thing that makes them great, their customers, and social media can amplify that. The thing to remember is, people are talking about your brand anyway, and offering social media spaces where you can engage in those conversations gives you more control, not less.

So if you’ve started social media pages for your company but have not cross connected them you are missing out on several benefits. Use these ideas to get started:

  • Include your social media accounts in your email signature and on your business cards

  • Add all your accounts with the icons to your homepage

  • If you have a blog, add your Twitter and Facebook accounts there as well as a link back to your website

  • Include your Twitter account on your Facebook Info page

  • Include your website in your Twitter bio

By doing these simple things, you’ll reap the benefits of the social media presence you’re working hard to establish. If you don’t have a social media presence yet, well, that’s another post.

Bench Craft Company on the art of jobs

Charlie Sheen’s use of technology and web 2.0 has earned him big dollars and a ‘winning’ formula for his own personal brand.

The Two And A Half Men star has greatly benefited from his own ability to embrace the internet, exploring all the marketing tools available to him. From breaking a twitter record, to hosting his own internet show on Ustream, the actor has done what few in Hollywood have ever achieved. Parody videos created by fans and websites dedicated to his one-liners are giving the actor non-stop free promotion and this in turn has created an audience of marketers for Charlie Sheen.

His infamous ABC interview gave birth to many of the viral video spoofs we have seen of his ‘radical’ behavior, which in turn, has fueled his twitter fan growth, and other media interview requests. With so many people discussing and sharing his antics, his own brand of controversy has been implanted onto the web, and has helped him sell tickets for his tour dates.

On top of that, Sheen’s regular updates with his fans on twitter provide a direct relationship and route to market. Sure that sounds a little cold, but he does have a following he can reach out to about his products.

Looking at what he did this week, Sheen took the next step in his own web fueled marketing campaign by making a self-parody video. This clever twist gave yet another viral hit to his name, as bloggers and social media re-posted and discussed how outrageous it was to see him spoof himself.

With many dates left on Charlie Sheen’s tour, the actor has a non-stop ‘Bi-Winning’ 24/7 marketing campaign, and other celebrities in the entertainment industry should learn from his online success.

Apple should see a material dip, on top of the one that occurred
after I indicated that I was short the stock on March 16th. Before we
delve into my opinion, let’s peruse the news from 1 a.m. this morning:

WSJ: Apple Crunched in Nasdaq Rebalance- In
a move likely to ripple across the stock market, Nasdaq OMX plans to
announce a rare rebalancing of its Nasdaq-100 index, which will reduce
the big weighting of Apple, which currently makes up more than 20% of
the index.

Bloomberg: Apple’s Weight in Nasdaq-100 to Be Reduced as Microsoft, Cisco Are Raised

So, why do you think Nasdaq decides to reduce Apple’s weighting now?
Well, the competitive pressures that Apple faces are nigh guaranteed to
make it impossible for it to fulfill the pie in the sky expectations
that are being built for it.  That in combination with a 20% weighting
create a recipe for a guaranteed crash in the Nasdaq unless something
was done about it. Signs of heavy reliance on on or two products for 70%
of their profit, while sourcing the most important parts of those
products from their biggest competitors, were starting to show. iPad 2
supplies are tight due to Japan’s woes, and Apple does not have the
mobile computing product diversity to handle it like the 150 or so
Android competitors it is battling. This means much more than just a gap
in profits for the quarter. These companies are in race, and Apple is
being forced to give up some of its lead due to diversification issues –
issues that Android manufacturers (who are more diversified because
there are so many more of them from different places) don’t have, or at
least not to the extent that Apple does. Thus, Samsung, LG, Asus, HTC,
etc. will be rolling out to customers who may have had an Apple iPhone
or iPad.

This is also another (of many) massive triumphs of BoomBustblog
research over that of the most esteemed Godman Sachs who put a $430
price target on Apple just as it was making all time highs and in direct
contravention to BoomBustBlog’s stated logic. See Shorting Apple and Why Software Developers Can Make More Money On Android Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

I have finally started dabbling with Apple
shorts and puts. My OTM S&P put positions were profitably stopped
out due to trailings yesterday when the market recovered some of its
losses. I have decided to use Apple in the place of the S&P puts
for the time being. Medium to long term, the trade is more evident and
obvious to anyone who is objective and follows BoomBustBlog. It is
significantly more risky shorter term. Alas, there are marginal gains
already, and once they accrue to the point of indemnifying my trailing
stop, I will add more. After I finish the current leg of my global real
estate research to be disseminated to institutions, I will offer
tidbits of the modeling (I have already offered subscribers significant
info on why I think Apple is a risky long play). From a contrarian
standpoint, it may be safe to go short with tight stops, after all
although Apple Gears Up To Combat The Margin Compression That Apparently Only It, Google & Reggie Middleton Sees Coming, we still have those guys over at West Street… Goldman’s
$430 Target, Screaming Buy On Apple At Its All Time High Is In Direct
Contravention To Reggie Middleton’s Logic – Who’s Right? Well, Who
Has Been More Right In The Past? I have taken The Challenge To Goldman Sach’s Apple Proclamation One Step

Farther, Apple’s Closed System Risks
Failure! Listen, everyone, regardless of what investment positions or
tech products you may have in your stable, needs to ask themselves the
appropriate “What if’s”. I have spurred the conversation with “Will Google Win The Mobile Computing War? Let’s Walk Through Where They Stand Now & How To Value Them”

Remember, I may not always be right, but it does pay to look at the track record…  Did Reggie Middleton, a Blogger at BoomBustBlog, Best Wall Streets Best of the Best? More attention should be paid to the little guy, after all by now it is Now Common Knowledge That Goldman’s Investment Advice Sucks!
Didn’t you get the memo? I’m sure many traders have spurned Apple due
to the Japanese market being cut off right at the launch of the iPad 2,
but the issues go deeper than that. I will cover it in depth at a later
date, though.

Additional thoughts on the Apple short:

The PPIC study Kolko co-authored sheds light on why historically California’s economy has grown on pace with the national economy even though it usually ranks low in surveys of states whose laws are favorable to business.

While the research suggests many factors that determine long-term economic growth lie beyond the reach of policy makers, Kolko cautioned that policy could still someday trump warm, sunny days on the Pacific coast.

“If California loses its ability to incubate and encourage fast growing industries to be here, that would be unfortunate” in the long term, she said.

Kolko identified two policies in particular, a simpler tax structure rather than a lower tax rate, and a lower share of government expenditure on welfare and transfer payments, as means of hastening economic expansion.

Roofing Companies Vancouver - 5 Questions to Think about

Roofing Vancouver - Faq's

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion like an expert opinion. Most contractors will provide you with a free estimate. Get a list of a couple trusted contractors and phone them well ahead of time of when you want to obtain your homes roof fixed to help you compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this with your spouse or partner. (The children could care less...at least the young ones.) Truth is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be seen with bed hair. If you've got a good quality roof and you simply have to do the repair, it's worth it to pay for the price of the initial shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (hopefully!) and so make a decision that best suits you and your loved ones well or it'll stand out like a sore thumb everyday you decide to go home.

3. Must i replace the roof so I can sell the home for additional?

Consider this very carefully before making a decision. Depending on the roofing material you choose, a new roof lasts anywhere from twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you have to look into the year from the roof that's currently over your head first. Are you at year 18 of a 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of a 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the standard is what makes the rooftop keep going longer, but if you're not planning to remain in your present home throughout your lifetime, the higher expense might not be worth your investment. Although a new roof can improve the value of your value, the rise may not be enough to pay for your investment and that's bound to hurt your wallet.

4. Could it be a good idea that i can repair the rooftop myself?

Sure it's. But before you do, consult an expert first. You can do it yourself, but you shouldn't be considered a complete ‘lone ranger.' With respect to the extent of your repair, you might or may not convince you. Either way, it will help to obtain a professional eye about the problem first and maybe even a free quote so you can do the math later and find out if it's truly worth your time, sweat, and money to become mister or miss fix-it.

5. When is a great time to get the roof replaced?

Weather may cause delays from days to weeks. Most people plan ahead to have their roof replaced in the summertime when they have a friend is going to be home throughout the day for a solid two weeks. Once you've this era in mind, create a call to a trusted contractor months in advance to obtain a quote. Some companies get booked up fast and chances are, they're probably the most reputable. Preparing in advance from the summer also gives you time to discuss with more and compare costs...especially if you want to have the roof done by a specified date.

Tacoma Roofer: Make your Home Beautiful

Very few people understand the worth of a solid roof, but your knowledgeable Tacoma Roofer does. From first hand experience, they'll be in a position to let you know the reason why you require a strong, secure, and leak-free roof in your home.

The local Tacoma Roofing company is well aware how important an economic investment your property is for you, especially since it is a lasting one. Your home may have been damaged slowly over the years and also you need to take steps to minimize this damage. For a lot of people, keeping their house beautiful is also a few pride. There are those too who'd prefer to turn their house right into a cost effective and efficient living place. Your roof is an integral part of your house and plays a role in each of the aspects mentioned previously. For this reason, you should employ the services of qualified a Tacoma Roofing company.

Kinds of Roofs installed with a Tacoma Roofing company

Among the more prevalent types of roofs are asphalt shingles, steel or metal sheeting, fiberglass, slate and terra cotta tiles.

Each type of roof invites distinct problems, however they can all be easily looked after with a trusted Tacoma Roofer. It's imperative that you nip roof problems within the bud before they become too expensive or dangerous. You are able to schedule a scheduled appointment with the Tacoma Roofer to take a glance at your homes roof to see if you will find any issues or potential problems with it. If there are, they might be in a position to let you know how to deal with them.

A Tacoma Roofer Helps you to Build Strong Homes

The exteriors of any house, primarily the rooftop and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying weather conditions, every single day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters may be necessary. In some instances you might want to replace them completely. Usually, when your gutters show signs and symptoms of trouble, your roof must also be inspected for problems. Whatever issues there might be, a skilled Tacoma Roofing company can examine them at length and suggest the remedy.

In case your gutters tend to clog too often, or you will find leaks along the walls of your house, it might mean that there's debris piled-up on the top. Loose branches, piles of leaves, and other light objects that are swept onto your roof throughout a storm can all contribute towards damaging your roof, which damages can be lasting. A knowledgeable Tacoma Roofer will tell you that birds, mice, and other types of rodents often build nest in the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they're great at collecting moisture, be responsible for loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your home. In addition, it may also cause vermin infestation. After a storm, your Tacoma Roofer will claim that you inspect your homes roof for any signs of debris or damage.

Reverse Damages by using a Tacoma Roofing contractor

However high quality the rooftop may be, it will eventually wear down with time. There are shingles that are known as "25 year" or "30 year" shingles, but those numbers are only related to warranty produced by the manufacturers. They seldom last that long. Realistically speaking, "25 year" shingles won't last more than a few years. Within an area that is prone to storms, shingles or the entire roof may need to be replaced every 10 years. With a Tacoma Roofing contractor, the price will be lower than what you believe.

If there you lose any shingles, or there is some damage to them, a Tacoma Roofing company can assist you to. Damaged shingles can result in indoor leaks, since the substrate from the roof becomes exposed to the elements. Shingles that are loose or broken can slip off and pose a possible hazard to people standing below. What is Distinction between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are considering getting a roofing company to re roof your house or building then you can be wondering what the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To begin with, the one big difference is that often times a commercial roofing company might have signed a contract with and become obligated to a roofing union in able to focus on union commercial jobs.

If this sounds like the situation then their labor costs will prohibit them from working on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if a commercial roofing company hasn't signed a contract having a union they might be outfitted simply for commercial jobs and that means that their workers and equipment may not be consistent with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors generally often run smaller companies and therefore, are more in a position to bid competitively on residential jobs, which tend to be smaller than comercial jobs. In fact, often times residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, where the contractor that you simply talk to may be the one that actually does the job on the building.

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more expensive along with a larger bond is required for a commercial roofing work which can make it not economical for any commercial roofing contractor to complete residential roofing jobs.

Still an additional factor is the fact that commercial jobs can run on a tighter time period for any number of reasons, requiring a commercial contractor to train on a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs not as profitable for them.

Distinction between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Did you know that the rooftop of the house or building has a huge impact on the whole structure itself? Damage caused to roofs because of natural or other disasters causes a considerable lack of property everywhere. The kind of materials accustomed to construct the roof which should be sturdy and long-lasting, the way where the roof continues to be installed and even its timely maintenance are extremely crucial. There's two kinds of roofs that are utilized on all of the buildings that we see around us: commercial and residential. Even though it might seem that commercial roofing is done only for businesses or offices and residential roofing is performed for apartments and houses, the truth is the differences tend to be more complicated than that.

Residential roofing is usually completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing usually takes an entire team to complete the job. The reason being an industrial roof is commonly larger in terms of square feet than the usual residential roof.
Commercial roofs are necessary carefully keeping the nature and reason for the building in your mind. For instance, if there is a cafe or restaurant in the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes is going to be required. Residential roofs tend not to have such components apart from a chimney or two at the most.
Commercial roofs is commonly flat in design to accommodate further changes in a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks and other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is much more expensive than residential roofing due to the special tools, materials and safety equipment which are needed onsite. Often the patching or maintenance work is done in segments unlike for any residential roof where the repair or replacement work can be completed in a short while. This really is one more reason why the equipment employed for residential roofs is often smaller and less expensive as well.
Commercial roof installations have a longer time to accomplish compared to residential roof installations and are usually constructed in large sections. During this phase however, you should ensure that there are no leakages, cracks or any other visible wear and tear signs as it can cause considerable harm to the entire building.
It is important to install the best roof for any building based on its purpose. Make sure that you hire a construction company that utilizes first class materials and has the best equipment to do the job or your investment risk turning out to be considered a huge loss later.

At one time when seo was actually not essential.

Whilst late being a decade ago, should you created a Web page anywhere, Google indexed it and you also gained visibility in its search results. Your page has been with a free "estates" where anybody could give a page and Google didn't mind. It could also have been a pure affiliate page with no original content and Google still indexed it.

Situations are unrecognizably different now.

Affiliate pages with "cookie-cutter" content duplicated everywhere might never make it to the Google index; exactly the same fate is probable for all those pages you toss in over a free-for-all website. And even "proper" websites with your personal domain name did not achieve visibility among the proliferating sites in millions.

These would not have mattered, aside from one thing. It absolutely was Google that provided the bread and butter for that millions of small businesses that could not afford expensive marketing campaigns. If the site was among the top few sites the appeared before a searcher's eyes when that individual searched for your product or service, you've got hundreds as well as 1000s of visitors, lots of whom even bought your products or services.

Search engine optimization (SEO) entered the scene. Search engine specialists "reverse-engineered" to recognize the factors that Google consider for showing websites towards the top of its serp's pages. These factors were then consciously integrated into your Web pages in the hope that Google will show your website the primary ten results it showed around the first page.

Weight loss of one's competitors adopted seo practices, things became difficult again. Your position started to slip if the competitors did the SEO better. SEO battles became serious fights with every dirty trick working.

There was "black hat" SEO practitioners who showed one page to look engines and the other to human visitors. As engines like google are not bothered with readability, you can fill the "search engine" page with pure gibberish, but gibberish developed in a way that the engine dutifully indexed high.

A war of wits followed between unscrupulous SEO practitioners and check engines. Google changed its ranking algorithms regularly to work around practices that allowed low value content to look towards the top of its serp's. In the end, Google's success been dependent on providing value to searchers, not merchants. And SEO practitioners developed new tricks.

We are going to take a look at search engine optimization in a group of articles, starting with an beauty at on-line or Web marketing.

'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

AFP
Uyghur men and women chat outside a mosque in Urumqi, July 17, 2009.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Vancouver Roofing Problems

Vancouver Roofing

In Vancouver extra care is required when getting a estimation for a home. A roof covering contractor within Vancouver needs to know exactly what they are coping with when getting your homes roof off. Unforeseen expenses really are a typical situation in Vancouver and every proprietor ought to be prepared

Heritage- becoming among the earliest places in the GVRD you can understand that there are several pretty old houses. Having a steep pitch roof, probably near 12/12 pitch that essentially indicates Forty five diploma angle roof. The initial roof had been cedar shake sitting on strapping. I'm not sure whether it had been lazy or the tradition, if everyone was trying to save money but if you have this roofing you probably obtained several coating on the roof. The original is still on and a pair of additional levels sit over the cedar shake. I have run into house exactly where five layers sat on top of the house. Based on creating code nowadays a Vancouver Roofing company must eliminate all layers if your new roof is to be placed above. A person folks often pay much more because of the steepness, the couple of layers of roof, the actual plywood outdoor patio and the trouble. You are probably 2 feet from your neighbours

Vancouver Roofing

Reduced Downward slope -- Vancouver special homes operate throughout East Vancouver. The slight problem with these houses when it comes to roof covering is that fewer and fewer roofing companies available do tar residue as well as tiny rocks. The choice you have is flashlight upon or even steel. Asphalt tiles can't go on these types of homes. Your own message would be to reduced as well as asphalt most likely wouldn't final ten years. Vancouver Roofing contractors which have been in the commercial of torch on in excess of ten years are most likely dependable. Ice and snow develop on these rooftops trigger small swimming pools to develop on your roofing and trigger main seeping, keep the rain gutters as well as downpipes clear.

Reduced Slope or even High Slope cedar tremble -- In Vancouver this is common about the Western side. There is not much to say about Cedar within Vancouver. There is an extended time period with the 60's, 1970's and Eighties whenever Vancouver Roofing businesses weren't setting up cedar. The majority of Cedar rooftops tend to be brand new construction. cedar may be the one product that the majority of problems can be determined prior to the function begins

Low Downward slope or High Downward slope Asphalt roofing -- For those who have asphalt roofing also it hasn't been changed within the last 10 years then you've a good deck. Because the 1970's asphalt came into the marketplace. With brand new building shiplap or also called tongue as well as groove had been the only real option of a solid deck. Shiplap techniques a great deal during the cold months and in summer time therefore plywood should be layered down through the roofing contractor

Roofing within Burnaby

Roofing within Burnaby can have it's challenges and also the easiest way to go through all of them would be to function from Northern in order to Southern starting towards the top associated with Burnaby. In North Burnaby the hillsides start to slope as well as decrease with a fairly strong perspectives. The big problems I've found here are driveway steepness and use of the house, even though this may not appear to be a problem to you it is a really major problem for a roofer who has at hand have your own old roof upward the slope as well as hand carry your brand-new roof down a slope.

Hard, the downward slope area in this area stored building companies away and for that reason you have homes that were all built by individually hired construction businesses. There are several servings of Northern Burnaby that have little groups houses all built collectively however to the degree which Main Burnaby has. Northern Burnaby has much more interesting built styles as well as roofs making a ball recreation area figure estimation in this area pretty difficult.

Roofing Burnaby

Central Burnaby is how big construction companies having a standard architectural method of building the home was fairly busy during the 70`s and earlier 80`s. With a shiplap outdoor patio being the only choice and asphalt shingles being the option as well as placed on a home. Today shiplap may be the roofers adversary because of the fact the shingles of today are not made to work with shiplap. Attempting to persuade main Burnaby they need to re-deck the roof with plyboard has often already been ignored and even for good cause.

The caliber of shiplap is high in this region with many of it that I have come across becoming between Six and Eight inches that is ideal. Other than that this particular part of Burnaby is fairly easy to roofing along with access not being a problem everything frequently and a clear style within steep roofing that is clear to see. A lot of Vancouver specials focused right here in order to with flashlight upon becoming the number one option in the original tar residue and tiny rocks choice. Cedar rooftops often spread the actual eastern side of this area with many converting in order to asphalt

South Burnaby has a tendency to possess much larger rooftops which are sprinkled along with asphalt and cedar tremble. Cedar shake roofs in this area are usually from houses close to Two decades old. This particular house tends to transform right into a asphalt roofing and most have okay entry but some don't and the rooftops aren't all that to steep. Some asphalt roofs down here actually have plyboard patio's which is always a big saving idea for any home owner

Roofing West Vancouver

West Vancouver is really a area associated with valley's as well as ridges, high drive-ways as well as hidden roofs. This can be a roofers headache but you will find roof covering businesses that are employed in the region as well as understand what they most likely could be dealing with. Unlike other cities within the Metro Vancouver area, large construction businesses did not purchase large tracks of property as well as build patterned suv cul-de-sacs. They do can be found however to some much smaller diploma compared to other cities. Consequently you can find in one street 20 homes just about all built in a different way. I suppose because of the land scenery it was the only method to get houses built in a few regions.

There is certainly a growth during the 1970's through the shear number of shiplap decks out there. The majority of roofs in West Vancouver that require an upgraded are asphalt rooftops which take a seat on the shiplap deck. These people shingle is normally a interlock shingle that was made for shiplap but no longer available in the Greater Vancouver area. The majority of property owners in West Vancouver are understanding that they right now require a plywood outdoor patio to cover the shiplap.

Cedar Shake Roof Replacement by American Custom Contractors

Several Cedar rooftops exist in West Vancouver although not a lot that requires changing. The majority of twenty year old cedar tremble roofs in West Vancouver have been changed so you find a cedar roofing in some places. Changing cedar with cedar is not a just about all in order to common practise and most Cedar roofs have been in brand new construction.

West Vancouver Roofing

Vancouver specials are not just about all to common within West Vancouver. Torch on and tar as well as tiny rocks can be obtained but not recommended. The actual rain as well as wind is commonly a bit more severe in West Vancouver, with the large quantities of trees and shrubs and also the chance of a heavy snow drop steel is a high recommendation.

Obtaining a roof estimate in West Vancouver can be very different than the individual residing right next door. if you have the steep driveway, possess a roofing that's steeper compared to 30 degrees and also over Two thousand sq ft compared to you can spend more than $ 3000 compared to your neighbor. The type of roof and quantity of flashing can produce a huge difference. In West Vancouver it is very tough to golf ball recreation area a cost for this really cause. I suppose you could say based on the little land you live on and the style from the roof could make all the difference from a high estimate and a low estimate. Roofing entry is a huge issue with a few roofers needing to hands carry that old roof over hundred ft than hand transporting the brand new roof one hundred feet to the home.

Get 3 estimates to compare celery with apples and for the same product, gives you the ability to educate yourself and ask the right concerns. Most roofs in West Vancouver is actually below ventilated so make sure when you get your roof estimation you can observe in the event that every estimation you get may change your air flow or even your brand-new roof will not last. The additional ventilation is not the addition cost therefore the much more the merrier, you can't have a limit upon ventilation. Tree particles is a issue therefore maintain your roofing with no damage the rooftop item. drip motorized inflator is probably the best form of upkeep.
